16th of August 1817 Titia Bergsma, her child and babysitter Petronella Munts arrived at Deshima. About five weeks later a message from the shogun [ emperor ] came ordering the women and child to leave Deshima.  Beroep hiertegen was niet mogelijk. In december vertrokken zij en keerden via Batavia terug naar Nederland, waar Titia Bergsma na enkele jaren van ziekte overleed zonder ooit haar man teruggezien te hebben.
